MACC yet to receive report on Suhaili, says Azam

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki says the anti-graft agency could not launch an investigation based merely on allegations.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission must receive a report before an investigation can be opened, says its chief commissioner Azam Baki.
PUTRAJAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has yet to receive a report against Mara Corp executive director Suhaili Abdul Rahman on purported corporate credit card abuse.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed this with FMT when asked about the matter and said the anti-graft agency could not launch an investigation based merely on allegations.

“Someone must lodge a report with us. We can’t just pick up (the allegation). So far, we have yet to receive a report,” he said.

Yesterday, an online portal reported that one of the five Mara senior officers implicated in an “exposé” by Edisi Siasat had lodged a report with the MACC against Suhaili over alleged credit card misuse.

Subsequently, Suhaili told FMT that he never abused the credit card privilege and had sought advice from the company’s chief financial officer (CFO) before spending.

He reiterated that his credit card transactions were made for business purposes.

Meanwhile, Azam said MACC’s focus now was to investigate allegations that the five Mara senior officers used their position to increase their allowances.

In a Twitter post recently, Edisi Khas leaked a letter allegedly sent by Suhaili to Mara chairman Azizah Mohd Dun, claiming that five senior officers had abused their positions.

All five officers had dismissed the allegations and filed police reports on the matter.

Yesterday, MACC raided three Mara-linked offices in Kuala Lumpur to obtain documents related to its investigation.
