In a statement today, Serdang district police chief AA Anbalagan strongly refuted the claim and said they had launched an investigation as soon as they received a report.
While his statement didn’t name the social media account, it is believed that he was referring to Edisi Siasat, which alleged today that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol in the accident that killed the victim.
The incident took place in the Serdang district.
Edisi Siasat also alleged that the case was closed on the instruction of a former Bukit Aman senior officer.
“The power to close any investigation is not within the police’s prerogative,” Anbalagan said.
He added that the suspect’s urine test result came back negative for drugs, and police had yet to obtain the result of the blood toxicology screening from the chemistry department.
Anbalagan advised the public not to believe “baseless accusations” and gave his assurance that police would investigate the case fairly according to the law.
He said the accusation was to serve the personal interests of irresponsible parties and an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the police force.
