Deputy public prosecutor Nik Haslinie Hashim said a letter to inform on the rejection of the representation was sent to the lawyer representing the family on Feb 4.
“Today is the case management on the status of the representation by the respondents and I regret to inform that the representation, filed on Nov 16, 2021 has been rejected by the AGC,” he said during the proceedings before High Court judge Jamil Hussin.
Lawyer Prem Ramachandran, representing Azeez’s family, confirmed having received the letter.
Following this, the court ordered the parties involved to file their written submissions by mid-May and set June 21 for hearing of the forfeiture suit.
In the forfeiture suit filed in September 2019, the government is applying to forfeit almost RM16 million from the accounts belonging to Azeez’s wife Khadijah Mohd Noor, their four children – Khairul Anwar, Khairul Azman, Khaleeda Azwa and Khaleeda Azeera – and also a shoplot in Bandar Sunway, which is owned by their company, Azeera Management Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd.
On Dec 18, last year, the court dismissed the family’s application to stay the forfeiture proceeding pending the disposal of the Baling MP’s ongoing corruption case at the sessions court.
Azeez is currently on trial for three counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM5.2 million in connection with road projects in Perak and Kedah and 10 counts of money laundering involving a total of RM13.9 million, which he allegedly received from Menuju Asas Sdn Bhd.
However, the trial has been postponed pending his appeal at the Court of Appeal to have the case against him struck out.
