The suggestion came following a video on social media that showed two cars involved in a collision after they had to make a sudden stop for a VVIP motorcade near the Hornbill Skyways office in Kuching. The motorcade allegedly involved the chief minister’s entourage, according to Yii.
The accident was unfortunate and unnecessary, said the MP.
Yii said police on duty should have tended to the accident victims first before allowing the escorts to continue their journey.
“We are fortunate that it only involved two cars and no one was seriously hurt.
“It also happened during non-peak hours or else it may have been worse or caused even more traffic congestion,” he said in a statement today.
Yii added that the VVIP could have at least come out or asked his aides to check on the accident victims to show concern.
“In this incident, it’s truly shocking that every single car in the motorcade just drove off, giving the perception that public safety is not a concern.
“Such practices, including SOPs and protocols for VVIP escorts, must be reviewed and reformed.”
He added that his proposal was also in view of another incident highlighted on social media, where an ambulance was made to give way to a VVIP escort, risking the lives of those in the ambulance.
