PETALING JAYA:
Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) is likely to make its electoral debut in the upcoming Johor state elections, according to its deputy president I Haniza Mohamed Talha.

In a statement released today, Haniza said that there was a high possibility of her party throwing its hat into the ring based on the latest political developments, statistics and feedback from the ground.

However, she said the party leaders were still in discussions among themselves as well as with others outside the party on a possible debut.

She added that the party would only field candidates in areas where they had served the electorate and were well-known to them.

“This is in order to increase our chances of winning those seats.”

Haniza said PBM was a strong multiracial party, which was a unifying factor for all Malaysians who are seen as one “Bangsa Malaysia”.

“It also pushes for more women and youth representation. These untapped talents will certainly contribute towards a better economy and nation-building.

“I was from a multiracial party, but as time passed, it diverted from its original course,” said the Lembah Jaya assemblyman in referring to her former party, PKR.

Haniza also expressed her desire for PBM to become the party of choice for voters in the next general election (GE15), adding that the party was identifying potential candidates, seats and setting up its election machinery.

PBM was launched on Dec 21 following approval by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to change the name and the constitution of the Sarawak Workers Party (SWP). The party is led by Julau MP Larry Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong.
