Former Bernama chairman Rahman Sulaiman dies at 75

A former journalist with RTM and Bernama, he served as the news agency's chairman for six years.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Abdul Rahman Sulaiman, a former chairman of the national news agency Bernama died today of a heart attack. He was 75.

His daughter Diana Sulamazra said Rahman breathed his last at about 4pm at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Cheras here.

He is survived by his wife Maznah Adam and three children.

Raman was born in Parit Buntar, Perak, and started his career as a journalist with Radio Television Malaysia in 1966 before joining Bernama as a senior journalist in 1971. He was later Johor bureau chief; correspondent for Thailand and Indo-China; chief sub-editor; chief news editor; executive editor of the general news service; and editor-in-chief.

He opted for early retirement and became MP for Parit Buntar for one term, after contesting the 1995 general election as the Barisan Nasional candidate. He won by a majority of 5,449 votes.

Rahman was appointed as chairman of Bernama in 2010 and served two terms until 2016.
