Dr M recovering well, moved to normal ward at IJN

Marina Mahathir says the former prime minister is in good spirits and that specialists treating Mahathir gave the green light for the move.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been warded in the Coronary Care Unit since last Saturday.
PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been moved from the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) to a normal ward at the National Heart Institute (IJN), his daughter Marina Mahathir said today.

In a statement, she said the specialists treating Mahathir found that he was recovering well. She added that the Langkawi MP was in good spirits.

“To avoid infections, both Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali are not allowed to receive visitors at IJN for now.

“Once again, our entire family would like to thank everyone for praying for his full recovery,” she added.

Yesterday, Marina said Mahathir asked for the public not to worry about his health, with his appetite improving as his condition improved.

Mahathir had been warded at the IJN’s CCU since Saturday. This was the Pejuang chairman’s third admission to IJN since December.

He had undergone a full medical check-up in December and was kept for six days for further observation. Earlier this month, he returned to IJN for an elective procedure.

Mahathir has a history of heart problems, having undergone two heart bypass surgeries in 1989 and 2007.
