The 11 judicial commissioners, which includes two senior federal counsels, will receive their appointment letters on Feb 4 from Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.

PETALING JAYA:

Two senior federal counsels from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Azizan Md Arshad and S Narkunavathy, are also on the list, as is Certificate of Legal Practice examination director Jamhirah Ali.

Others include Noor Ruwena Nordin from the Advisory Board in the Prime Minister’s Department, sessions court judge Rozi Bainon and industrial court chairman Noor Hayati Mat.

Lawyers slated to be appointed JCs are Noor Hisham Ismail, Azlan Sulaiman, Leong Wai Hong and Kenneth Yoong.

Sources said they would be receiving their appointment letters from Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat on Feb 4.

They will then take their oath of office before Chief Judge of Malaya Azahar Mohamed or Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, depending on the location of their postings.

“They are undergoing an induction programme at the Palace of Justice from today until Friday,” a source told FMT.

Lawyers and members of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission who had applied to become JCs were interviewed late last year. The final list was decided by the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC).

Judges are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, acting on the advice of the prime minister and after consultation with the Conference of Rulers.

All of them will be on a two-year probation pending confirmation as High Court judges.

When officiating the legal year on Jan 14, Tengku Maimun said more JCs would be appointed with the opening of more High Courts to dispose of the increasing caseload.

According to the JAC website, there are currently 45 JCs and 50 High Court judges.
