PETALING JAYA:
A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing an e-hailing driver and driving off with his car after taking a ride from Putrajaya to Sentul, Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon.

According to police, the suspect was picked up by the victim in Putrajaya using the In Driver application at about 2pm yesterday.

“After arriving at Sentul Pasar, the suspect asked for the driver’s account number to transfer the funds. That was when he pulled out a sharp object presumed to be a knife and stabbed the 47-year-old victim in the neck,” said Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai.

He said the suspect then pulled the victim out of the grey Proton Saga and drove away with a few personal items belonging to the victim.

“Passers-by called for an ambulance which then rushed the victim to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement. He did not provide any detail on the extent of the victim’s injury.

At around 12pm this afternoon, the police arrested the suspect in Kota Damansara following a tip-off.

“The suspect had no prior criminal record. He will be charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping.”

Kuala Lumpur police have advised the public with information on criminal activities and abuse of drugs to contact the Sentul district police headquarters at 03-4048 2206.
