KUALA LUMPUR:
Police will be setting up six diversions all around Kuala Lumpur in anticipation of a street protest against Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki tomorrow.

The diversions will affect Jalan Kuching, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Maharajalela, Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Imbi and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

In a press conference, Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the diversions will be in place from 7am tomorrow.

He added that they have yet to receive any formal notification about the rally as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

The #TangkapAzamBaki protesters include civil society groups and the youth wings of various opposition parties. They plan to gather outside the Sogo shopping mall at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman at 11am tomorrow.

Noor Dellhan also said several train stations in the area will be temporarily closed. They are as follows:

LRT Ampang Line/Sri Petaling Line – Pudu, Hang Tuah, Masjid Jamek, Plaza Rakyat, Bandaraya, Sultan Ismail
LRT Kelana Jaya Line – Kampong Baru, Dang Wangi, Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni
MRT Sg Buloh-Kajang Line – Bukit Bintang, Merdeka, Pasar Seni
Monorail – Medan Tuanku, Bukit Nanas, Raja Chulan, Bukit Bintang, Imbi, Hang Tuah, Maharajalela, Tun Sambanthan, KL Sentral
KTM – Kuala Lumpur, Bank Negara, Putra

He urged members of the public against taking part in the rally, warning that the police will take strict action against those who try to gather.

“The court has issued an order allowing us to stop anyone from holding any gatherings at Dataran Merdeka, Sogo and Masjid Jamek,” he said, adding that the court order will last for seven days.

Some 1,010 personnel will be deployed in the event that protestors do show up, he added.

Noor Dellhan also said 16 people have been called in for questioning over the rally, but they have not identified the organiser yet.
