KUALA LUMPUR:
All panellists and attendees at a book launch on Jan 11 wore masks and strictly followed SOPs, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said today, after he gave a statement to police on the event.

“We took off our masks only briefly at the request of a photographer following the event,” he said.

Lim was speaking to reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD) where he had earlier given his statement following claims of a breach of SOPs at a book launch, which he and Muda co-founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman attended.

The allegations came following a viral photo of Lim, Syed Saddiq and writer Kee Thuan Chye on stage without face masks.

Lim was accompanied today by his political secretary Syahredzan Johan, who said no compound was issued and that they will wait for the police to conclude investigations.

“Police will investigate the matter under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988,” Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya told FMT earlier.

The event at the Sogo Convention Hall on Jan 11 was to launch Lim’s biography, titled “Lim Kit Siang: Malaysian First”, written by Kee.
