PAS drops Khairuddin as appointed committee member

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang declines to state the reason, saying only that 'there must be discipline' in the party.

PETALING JAYA:
Former plantation industries and commodities minister Khairuddin Aman Razali has been dropped as an appointed PAS committee member, less than two months after being reappointed to the role.

Party president Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed the matter today, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“The matter was handled by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan. Of course, there is a reason (for his dismissal). In the party, there must be discipline.

“Whoever does not follow, he can be transferred – to work someplace else, or suspended or even sacked,” Hadi told reporters after Friday prayers in Marang today.

The decision was made at a PAS meeting held at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur recently.

In November last year, Khairuddin was among three high-level leaders reappointed as PAS committee members for 2021 to 2023, after losing in the party polls. He was appointed together with Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki and Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

Last night, Khairuddin suggested that he may be facing action over a Facebook post in which he wrote that differences in opinion are normal due to differences in perspectives and backgrounds.

This is not the first time Khairuddin had courted controversy.

In July 2020, Khairuddin had faced public criticism when Seputeh MP Teresa Kok questioned why he had not been placed under the mandatory 14-day home quarantine after returning from an official trip to Turkey.

He had also attended a Dewan Rakyat sitting during the quarantine period.

The health ministry said he had been penalised with a RM1,000 compound, which he had paid. Khairuddin then made a public apology for his conduct and said he would donate four months of his salary to the pandemic fund. He said the incident was the result of an oversight on his part.
