PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested seven teenagers over a fight at a market in Kunak, Sabah.

Police said the arrests were made in response to a video clip on social media yesterday of the fight at the “pasar tamu minggu” (weekly market) grounds.

The 28-second video, believed to be recorded by a friend of the assailants, shows a boy being held from behind while several other teenagers repeatedly kick and punch him.

The victim then falls unconscious, probably due to being choked from behind by one of the teenagers. His condition is yet to be known.

The incident is believed to have taken place early last month at the market grounds near a religious school.

Police are investigating the case under Section 147 of the Penal Code for fighting in public. The offence carries a two-year jail sentence, a fine, or both.

Last month, a boarding school in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, expelled 10 students over their alleged involvement in a bullying incident.

A video of the incident involving Form One students at the Sultan Azlan Shah Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) went viral on social media.

In the video, a student was seen being punched and kicked by a group of his peers.

Meanwhile, based on a statement issued by Kunak district police chief Sabarudin Rahmat yesterday, the victim made a police report after the clip went viral on Facebook.

He said he was beaten by his friends after he sold clothing that was bought together with them without their knowledge and kept all the profits to himself.

“The victim asked his friends to beat him as punishment for his action. He claimed they resumed their friendship as usual after that,” said Sabarudin.

The victim also told police that he did not suffer any serious injuries during the incident and did not know who released the video clip on social media.
