BANTING:
Twenty-nine drug addicts were detained by police at an oil palm plantation along Jalan Klang-Banting, Jenjarom near here yesterday.

Kuala Langat police chief Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor said the men were held following the arrest of a drug pusher at the plantation.

“After arresting the drug pusher, we waited to nab his customers who came to get their fix in the estate.

“All 28 drug addicts, including a Bangladeshi, were taken into custody on the same day,” he said at a media conference today.

Ridhwan said screening tests showed all the suspects, who were unemployed, including the pusher, were positive for an opiate drug. All 29 had previous drug-related records.

Police also seized 25.4gm of drugs valued at RM500 and RM350 in cash, believed to be drug proceeds.

He said the suspects, aged between 20 and 50, were remanded for four to seven days for further investigations.

In another case, Ridhwan said on Tuesday, police apprehended five suspects believed to be responsible for a series of house robberies and burglaries in the past three months.

“We believe that with their arrests, we have succeeded in solving at least 10 robberies and 10 burglaries around Banting, Kuala Selangor and Klang.”

The suspects, who had past criminal and drug records, were remanded for six days.
