KUALA LUMPUR:
The government has cancelled its 2022 New Year celebrations, which will be replaced with ‘solat sunat hajat’ and ‘doa selamat’ prayers as a sign of respect and sympathy for the flood victims in several states.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he had instructed that the ‘solat sunat hajat’ and ‘Malaysia Berzikir Ambang 2022’ be held tomorrow at the Putra Mosque, Putrajaya.

“With this, I am inviting the Malaysian Family to hold congregational maghrib prayers, ‘solat sunat hajat’ and ‘doa selamat’ at Putra Mosque, Putrajaya tomorrow night. Those who cannot attend may follow the live telecast,” he said in a Facebook posting today.

He urged mosques all over the country, especially state mosques, to organise similar functions for prayers.

Non-Muslims could also hold prayers according to their respective religions, he said.
