Covid-19 situation continues to improve in Sabah

Number of cases is at its lowest since May.

Damansara MP Tony Pua says Malaysia's positivity rate is more than double the 5% benchmark recommended by WHO.
Sabah local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun hoped the people would continue to follow all SOPs to keep the pandemic under control.
KOTA KINABALU:
The number of new daily Covid-19 cases in Sabah continues to dip with only 108 infections detected in the last 24 hours.

“This is the lowest caseload in Sabah since May,” state local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun told FMT when contacted.

The last time the number of cases went below 100 was on May 18, with 95 infections.

The state’s daily infections hit a record high of 3,487 on Aug 26 this year.

Masidi said the cases today were fewer by 19 than that of yesterday. Of the 108 cases, 104 were in Categories 1 and 2, two cases in Category 3 and one each in Categories 4 and 5.

“To many around the world, today is Boxing Day. We have not ‘KO-ed’ (knocked out) Covid-19, but there are signs of improvement if we continue to observe the SOPs and other health safety advice,” he said.

He added the caseload today was also consistent with Sabah’s infectivity rate of 0.81 recorded yesterday and the lower reading indicated that the transmission rate is decreasing and is under control.

As of yesterday, Sabah had registered 239,482 cumulative Covid-19 cases and 232,071 recoveries. There have been 2,770 deaths overall.

A total of 2,401,469 people in the state have also completed two shots of the vaccine.
