PETALING JAYA:
A total of 122 slopes have been classified as “high-level” critical hotspots for disaster, says energy and natural resources minister Takiyuddin Hassan.

He said they were among 220 critical slopes that had been monitored nationwide as a precautionary measure after the rainy season started.

Takiyuddin said the public should be more vigilant and take immediate action if there were early signs of landslides in their areas.

In a statement today, the minister identified some of the locations of the slopes.

He said continuous heavy rainfall from Dec 16 to Dec 19 had resulted in many landslides in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. More than 100 such incidents were recorded.

“The Northeast Monsoon started on Nov 3 and is expected to continue until March next year, with heavy rains in most states averaging between 50mm and 850mm,” Takiyuddin added.
