Genting Highlands fire station chief Yusri Abdullah Sani said the body was found at 10.15am and the search and rescue (SAR) team took about half an hour to remove the victim who was buried under a pile of logs and sand.
“Today, the team will use excavators to locate the other victims who are still missing,” he told reporters at the scene.
Yusri said so far, the SAR team had marked three locations for the operation, one of them believed to be where a six-year-old boy, Emanuel Chang, went missing.
Last Saturday, over 30 people, including nine children, faced anxious moments when they were caught in the mudslide while visiting a chalet near Bentong.
Besides the boy, a couple, Bobby Lim Yoke Hoong and Yap Koon Lau, were also reported missing in the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the search for the fifth victim of the mud flood in Telemong, near here, was expanded to a 5km radius.
Bentong fire and rescue officer Sufian Yakub said the search operation, which is currently focused on the other side of the river, involved two rescue boats with 20 firefighters and policemen.
“The operation was extended to the downstream area, with the search area expanded across the river,” he said.
Apart from that, Sufian said 51 volunteers, comprising residents of Felda Chemomoi here, also assisted in the search.
Yesterday, Bernama reported that four bodies were found in the mud flood incident in Telemong.
Earlier, Telemong volunteer fire brigade chairman Lai Wah Foong said the route to the scene was impassable following the landslide along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway.
