Why the double standard on SOPs, asks Amanah man

Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah hits out at a RM1,500 fine on a senior citizen for not wearing his face mask properly in public.

Pak Din was told by police he was not wearing his face mask properly.
PETALING JAYA:
An Amanah leader has questioned the double standard in enforcing Covid-19 SOPs after an elderly man was fined RM1,500 for not wearing a face mask properly.

Terengganu Amanah chairman Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah said this was despite no action being taken against two state leaders for the same offence.

In a statement today, he noted the case of Pak Din, a senior citizen who recently travelled from Dungun to Kuala Terengganu to take part in a flash mob meant to highlight the increase in the price of essential goods.

Raja Kamarul said Pak Din was called in by police, who told him that he was photographed not wearing a face mask properly at the flash mob.

Pak Din (centre) seen not wearing his face mask properly, and social media photos showing Terengganu exco members Tengku Hassan Tengku Omar (left) and Azman Ibrahim not wearing face masks at all in public.

“If action was taken against Pak Din for not wearing a face mask properly, what about the Terengganu executive councillors who were not wearing them at all in public?” he said.

“This was seen in social media portals and no action has been taken by the Terengganu government.

“Are there two sets of laws for the same offence, where stern action is taken against one and the other gets off the hook?”

In the statement, Raja Kamarul also attached a photo of Pak Din wearing a face mask around his chin alongside screenshots from social media showing two state executive councillors, Tengku Hassan Tengku Omar and Azman Ibrahim, not wearing face masks in public.

Hassan heads the trade, industry, regional development and administrative wellbeing committee, and Azman is the chairman of the state’s agriculture, food industry, plantation, commodity and rural development committee.
