“Nor can they act without taking into account the views of the other parties that form the government,” he said, adding that the current government was formed by Perikatan Nasional.
Muhyiddin said this when officiating at Gerakan’s 50th annual general meeting earlier today.
And this is why PN, the coalition he now leads, could set requirements when forming both the federal and state governments, including to combat corruption and abuse of power, he said.
“The government now cannot bow down to pressure by anyone to protect certain quarters including kleptocrats.”
Muhyiddin went on to say that PN’s presence in the government was not for the sake of “power and positions”.
Ismail Sabri Yaakob succeeded Muhyiddin after the latter resigned as prime minister in August, with a majority of the Cabinet members consisting of ministers and deputies in the previous line-up.
Muhyiddin said the system where one party was dominant had collapsed after the 14th general election.
In 2018, Pakatan Harapan wrested the federal government from the Barisan Nasional after 61 years.
The PH administration, however, collapsed after Bersatu — of which Muhyiddin is president — pulled out of the coalition and formed the PN government with BN and PAS.
