PETALING JAYA:
The government has declared Friday a public holiday for the federal territories following Kuala Lumpur City FC’s (KL City)victory over Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in last night’s Malaysia Cup final.

In a statement, Federal Territories minister Shahidan Kassim said the declaration of a holiday for Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan was in line with the Holidays Act 1951.

“Last night’s win was KL City’s greatest achievement after waiting 32 years to win the Malaysia Cup,” he said in a short statement.

Yesterday, KL City stunned Super League champions and odds-on favourites JDT to win the Malaysia Cup at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Second-half goals from Zhafri Yahya and Paulo Josue helped the City side to a 2-0 win over the holders from Johor.

The last time the club lifted the prestigious trophy was in 1989.
