PKR not bound by Sng’s DAP deal, says info chief

Abun Sui Anyit says the former state party chief made the pact by himself without consulting the party’s leaders.

Larry Sng (left) is now an ‘outsider’ and his deal with DAP is not binding, says state PKR information chief Abun Sui Anyit.
PETALING JAYA:
Sarawak PKR is not bound by an agreement by the party’s former Sarawak leader Larry Sng with DAP on seat allocations, state PKR information chief Abun Sui Anyit said.

He told FMT that Sng made the pact with DAP Sarawak on his own without consulting the party’s grassroots leaders, who had opposed the agreement.

“Do not let outsiders like Sng decide for us. As an affected party, we do not agree with the agreement he made. We don’t know what his motive was back then. Only he and the signatories of the agreement know the real motive,” said Abun.

Abun did not discount the possibility of there being clashes between PKR and DAP in the state assembly seats of Senadin, Pujut, Piasau, and Kemena.

“That (clash) is possible, but we hope that it won’t happen. We hope the seat allocation issue will be resolved before nomination day. The sooner we resolve it, the better it is for both parties.

“Plus, we need to look into the strengths and merits of each candidate when we negotiate the seats. We have the data and facts from the last state elections as well as GE14. Hopefully there is still a chance to negotiate seats and candidates,” he added.

Earlier today, The Malaysian Insight reported that PKR may clash with DAP in the four disputed seats in the coming Sarawak state elections, unless both parties can come to an agreement before nomination day.

The state PKR leadership previously accused the state Pakatan Harapan chairman Chong Chien Jen of defaulting on the decision to refer the seat dispute to the PH presidential council in a state-level meeting on Thursday.

Senadin, Pujut, and Piasau, Chinese-majority seats in Miri, were traditionally allocated to DAP. Kemena in Bintulu was contested by PKR, which DAP considered to be a “loan”. DAP lost in three seats, winning only in Pujut. However, the court disqualified Pujut assemblyman Ting Tiong Choon in February last year for having dual Malaysian-Australian citizenship.

The 12th Sarawak polls will take place on Dec 18. A total of 1,252,014 voters are eligible to cast their ballots.
