Anwar grills Tengku Zafrul over ‘unanswered’ questions on Subang Airport, HSR

The opposition leader says the finance minister has not replied to a number of his queries.

Anwar Ibrahim says Tengku Zafrul Aziz can give him written answers if he does not have time to speak in Parliament.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz was put in the spotlight at the Dewan Rakyat today over unanswered questions concerning infrastructure projects such as the takeover of Subang Airport.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said with “billions” at stake in the airport project, the minister had not answered his questions.

He said another matter of concern was the KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, adding that the 50:50 equity of the companies running the project would put the country at a disadvantage.

Anwar also alleged that the government was paying much more than it needed to for the replacement of vehicles for senior government leaders.

Citing a “contact”, he said he was told the government had put in a lower bid but opted for a more expensive option. He called on Tengku Zafrul to explain.

Anwar also said a question he put forward over the government giving AirAsia a RM500 million guarantee, where Malaysia Airlines was sidestepped, was yet to be answered.

He also questioned the minister’s use of the “highest forecast figures in the world” over fiscal initiatives in the budget and, separately, the increase in gaming licences.

He asked if the gaming licences had been approved by the Cabinet, which included ministers from Malay parties such as Umno, PAS and Bersatu.

Anwar said he asked for details on how many licences were approved, when they were approved and more, but “there have been no answers until now”.

“The finance minister did not answer a lot of questions that I have asked. I hope he does not take this lightly. If there is not enough time, he is obliged to answer in writing.

“This is important as it involves a lot of money,” he said.
