Covid-19 positive man disrupts voting in Masjid Tanah

Voter finds out he is Covid-19 positive only after casting vote, says Melaka health director.

Melaka health director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the voting stream used by the infected person was closed for disinfection and close contacts were now being traced.
PETALING JAYA:
A Covid-19 positive voter cast his ballot at a polling centre in Masjid Tanah today, forcing the Election Commission to close off part of the place temporarily for urgent disinfection at the urging of the Melaka health department.
Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman.

In a statement, state health director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the infected person had carried out a swab test at a private lab before he went to cast his vote at the centre.

He said the voter only received his test results after returning home from voting. He had not shown any symptoms when he arrived at the polling centre earlier.

Rusdi said the voting channel which the infected person had used was closed for disinfection.

He said the EC had then immediately opened another voting channel to replace the closed one, with new equipment.

Rusdi said the district health office had sent its workers to ensure the infection control measures were in order.

He said in the meantime, close contacts of the infected persons were being traced and they will undergo tests.
