The PH presidential council said the coalition had engaged with the government in several rounds of discussion on the budget.
Through the engagement sessions, PH’s representatives had voiced out opinions related to the budget, it said in a statement.
There were issues that both PH and the government could agree on but there were also issues that both parties had differing opinions on.
“Therefore, since we could not agree on several issues at the Budget 2022 policy level, PH decided to vote through the voice vote.
“For the Budget 2022 approval process at the committee level, which begins on Monday, Nov 22, PH will continue to play the check-and-balance role, and fight for the rights of all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, gender or region.”
Among others, PH called for Sabah and Sarawak’s allocations to be increased, saying the budget should be fair for all Malaysians.
It said it would continue to hold discussions on the budget with the government, adding that any decision on its approval at the committee level would be announced later.
Voting to approve Budget 2022 at the policy level will be the main focus of the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.
The vote on the Supply Bill 2022 is expected to be carried out after the remaining five ministries – rural development; entrepreneur development and cooperatives; federal territories; tourism, arts and culture; and finance – wind up their debate on the bill.
