Zero Covid-19 clusters for first time in almost a year

The last time no new clusters were detected was on Dec 15, 2020.

The national immunisation campaign has reached more than 95% of Malaysian adults, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
PETALING JAYA:
No new Covid-19 clusters were recorded today for the first time in almost a year. The last time was on Dec 15 last year.

At the time, the health ministry had reported 1,772 Covid-19 cases and three deaths. Today, 5,162 new cases were reported.

The absence of any new cluster may not come as a surprise as the number of daily new clusters detected this month has been below 10. Yesterday only three were reported, all of which involved the workplace. The day before nine were detected.

The last time a double-digit figure was recorded was on Oct 29 when 11 clusters were detected.

The highest number of clusters detected to date was on Aug 18, with 49 clusters reported. More than half were detected at the workplace.

The decline in the number of clusters has come as daily new infections have shown a declining trend as a result of greater number of the population being vaccinated.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the national immunisation campaign had covered 95.1% of the adult population.
