PAS will play ‘kingmaker’ role in GE15, says Hadi

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang says the party cannot be mere ‘passengers’ in politics.

Abdul Hadi Awang says PAS had a role in mending Umno, which was ‘badly hurt’ after GE14, and in giving a boost to Bersatu, which is a splinter of Umno.
KUALA TERENGGANU:
PAS today said it cannot afford to be just a “passenger” in the country’s politics and will now prime itself to be the kingmaker in the next general election (GE15).

Party president Abdul Hadi Awang said, however, that it would continue to be a part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition with Bersatu.

“We should not be confined to being a passenger in the country’s political journey.

“PAS must strive to be the deciding force in GE15, based on the number of seats won, not just contesting a large number of seats but never winning them.

“This is to ensure a principled Islamic leadership,” he said at the opening of the party’s 67th Muktamar at Pulau Duyong here today.

Meanwhile, Hadi said PAS had a role in mending Umno, which was “badly hurt” in the last general election (GE14), and in giving a boost to Bersatu, which is a splinter of Umno.

He said it can help both Umno and Bersatu by using its experience to help unite Malay and Muslim parties.

“After all, these two parties have been united thanks to PAS’ role in Muafakat Nasional and PN,” he said.
