Lawyer Nurainie Haziqah Shafi’i, representing the 21-year-old mother, told reporters that magistrate Norfarahain Roslan made the order today during the hearing of the application by Siti Bainun for custody of the child.
“She (the biological mother) gets the custody order today but she is subjected to JKM’s (welfare department) two years’ supervision,” Nurainie said.
She said JKM could conduct spot checks on the two-year-old and his mother any time during this two-year period.
Last week, the same court granted custody of Siti Bainun’s adopted son to JKM for three years, pending disposal of her child abuse case before the sessions court.
Siti Bainun was charged in the sessions court on Aug 20 with allegedly neglecting “Bella”, a 13-year-old girl with Down syndrome.
Meanwhile, co-counsel Muhammad Hafiz Hood said the hearing continues on Nov 16 for Siti Bainun’s application to obtain full custody of her three other adopted children.
JKM previously took custody of Siti Bainun’s five adopted children on July 16, after she was arrested by police over the Bella abuse case.
Bella was found with burn marks on her chest, hands, neck and thighs on July 6 after allegedly being a victim of abuse at a condominium unit in Wangsa Maju, which was being used as a welfare home.
Rumah Bonda was also found to have been operating illegally since 2019 and had not been registered with the welfare department.
