Sean died early this week, apparently in a car crash.
His father, Jayabalan G Subbiah, said officials at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) told him the post-mortem could not be conducted because he had Covid-19.
Jayabalan told FMT he could not understand this since there were SOPs for the post-mortems of Covid-19-positive bodies.
However, he contested the claim that Sean had Covid-19, saying a lab report of a test his son had acquired on his own stated that he was in fact negative for the disease.
“He is fully vaccinated and he gets tested frequently because he coaches children,” Jayabalan said.
“My family is very traumatised. We are very bothered as to why they are still refusing the post-mortem. They have not even allowed us to identify his body, saying we could identify him only through pictures.”
He said he received a phone-call from his son’s fiancée at 1am on Tuesday, saying that his son was in a car accident on Jalan Mahameru and that his body was thrown out of the car.
The body was found in a drain.
Jayabalan said police had assured his family that a full investigation would be carried out as he had requested, in order to allay “a lot of suspicions” on his part.
“The police have requested for a post-mortem, but the hospital is still refusing to do it,” he added.
“We are distraught. He is a very well-known futsal player in the Klang Valley and he won many awards. He was well-loved in the community.”
FMT is seeking a comment from HUKM.
