PETALING JAYA:
Social media users are crying foul over the government’s move to offer discounts of between 10% and 15% for the repayment of PTPTN loans under Budget 2022.

Many feel that those who paid diligently are being victimised while defaulters are being rewarded.

Fatihah Hasmi said the government was penalising those who have been responsible in making repayments.

“These people are penalising the good paymaster and rewarding those who are tardy and irresponsible,” she said on Facebook.

Another user Kifyantha Parimalam felt it was an injustice towards those who have paid in full.

“Are they (being) treated fairly?,” she asked.

Ardi Irwan said that those who have been paying even during the pandemic should now be given a refund.

Han Wee Jee also expressed her unhappiness, saying it does not pay to settle summonses and or government loans in Malaysia.

“There will be good discounts and promotions for people who refuse or delay payments! Those who pay on time are penalised by paying the full amount!,” she said.

However, there were some who were excited over the discounts offered.

“Yes, yes! 15% discount for full settlement of PTPTN. I’ve been waiting for a long time for another discount.

“I was thinking of clearing the balance the other day and remembered #Bajet2022 is near and was hoping for a discount,” said @jrchangwook.

Another user, @rachtjxin, said the only thing she was excited about in the whole Budget was the PTPTN discount.

Some compared the incentive to the 20% discount given to those who fully settled their loan by then prime minister Najib Razak in Budget 2018.

“The PTPTN discount is so little. I miss Najib’s time when he gave a 20% discount,” said @aaziend.
