The PH presidential council claimed that 88% (or RM8.3 billion) of the total construction value had already been paid although only 13% of the work had been done.
The coalition expressed shock at the government’s decision to revive the controversial trans-Sabah gas pipeline and multi-product pipeline projects.
The PH leaders said the total construction value was around RM9.4 billion, without other additional costs taken into account.
“The MACC must fully investigate why these failed projects had been revived on Feb 10 by the Perikatan Nasional government led by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin,” the PH leaders said in a statement signed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau.
Questions have been raised over the revival of the projects that were axed during the PH administration in 2018.
DAP’s Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin was the first to highlight the issue after learning the project was back on track following a written parliamentary answer from finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz.
The PH leaders also urged MACC to intensify its efforts to probe those linked to the Pandora Papers leak and whether the funds stored in offshore accounts were from legitimate sources or illegal activities.
They expressed disappointment that the MACC had to query Anwar for details on the data leak when the anti-graft agency had more sources and investigation expertise at its disposal for cases like this.
