BERA:
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it is his elder brother Kamarazaman Yaakob’s right to set up a new party, Parti Kuasa Rakyat.

Ismail, who is also an Umno vice-president, said family members belonging to different political parties was not something new in this country.

“It has been happening in Malaysia. This is all part of democracy and that’s his right.

“There’s no quarrel over it,” said the Bera MP when asked to comment on Kamarazaman’s launch of Parti Kuasa Rakyat recently.

Ismail was speaking to the media after an event to mark the promotion of Bera district police chief Mansor Samsudin to superintendent of police at the district police headquarters here today.

The deputy district police chief, N Kumaran, was also promoted to deputy superintendent of police.

Present at the event were deputy home minister Ismail Mohamed Said, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Bukit Aman logistics and technology department director Sahabudin Abd Manan and Bukit Aman management department director Zaini Jass.

Kamarazaman launched Parti Kuasa Rakyat, a multiracial party, on Oct 10.

Among others, he said the party would champion free education, free health and housing, and the creation of job opportunities especially for the B40 and M40 groups.

Meanwhile, Ismail also said the home ministry would discuss the issue of police salaries with the relevant departments as the matter needed a more comprehensive study.

He said the discussions would involve, among others, the finance ministry and the public service department.

“The matter needs in-depth discussions because it involves the country’s finances,” he said in response to a recent media report that the low salary and allowances of police personnel, especially the low-ranking ones, was the cause of them facing problems, including debts.

It is learnt that the last review of the police salary was in 2010.
