PETALING JAYA:
Campers have been told to avoid the Port Dickson beach area to prevent any untoward incident, including theft and sexual harassment.

Port Dickson municipal council president Zamri Mohd Isa said the council only monitored public beaches until midnight.

“We do not encourage campers to spend the night, but we do not prevent them from doing so,” he said, according to a report in Utusan Online today.

Zamri said that with state borders open and a public holiday coming up on Tuesday, holidaymakers had started coming in droves since Friday.

The majority of them were from the Klang Valley and Putrajaya, he added.

To ensure safety, Zamri said 70 council officers would patrol the beach area and its restaurants.

Action would also be taken against those who were not fully vaccinated but were found at crowded areas.

Earlier, Facebook user Zainuddin Omar had posted a photo of the Port Dickson beach filled with tents, along with a message to the people not to come to the seaside resort.

“It is jam-packed with cars and tents,” he cautioned.
