State youth, sports and human capital development committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the state government took the matter seriously and hoped the number of unemployed persons could be reduced through the Jelajah Selangor Bekerja 2021 career carnival with nearly 25,000 jobs up for grabs.
He hoped the programme involving 200 companies would reduce the unemployment rate to 3.7% by the first quarter of next year.
In 2019, Selangor’s unemployment rate was 2.9% while in 2020 the figure rose to 4.5% due to the pandemic.
On the career carnival, Khairuddin said the tour will start from Oct 23 to December this year, passing through Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Hulu Langat, and Petaling.
“It will be a hybrid event, namely online and physical, and will adhere to the SOPs set in line with Phase 3 of the national recovery plan,” he said at the opening ceremony today.
Khairuddin said the carnival will focus on jobs in the aerospace industry in collaboration with Invest Selangor Bhd, and include jobs covering the services, manufacturing, electronics, and management sectors.
He urged Selangor residents, especially youths, to take advantage of the initiatives provided by the state government and to register at the website www.selangorbekerja.com.my to identify their career options and help employers find the manpower they need.
