
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun said this was despite regular tests being carried out.
“Throughout the sitting, antigen and PCR tests were carried out and no one was tested positive,” he told MPs.
Due to this, he said MPs could now remove their face masks while giving speeches and debating. “However, face masks need to be worn as soon as the speech is over,” he said, with MPs responding with an aye.
Two weeks ago, MPs debating the King’s speech and the 12th Malaysia Plan requested to be allowed to remove their face masks while debating.
M Karupaiya (PH-Padang Serai) had asked that MPs be allowed to remove the masks, as some MPs were breathless and could not speak clearly. Other MPs also put forward the same request.
The last special Parliamentary sitting was cut short on July 31 after several staff were found to be Covid-19 positive.
Parliament which had been suspended under the Emergency, convened for the first time this year on July 26. Eleven Covid-19 cases were detected in Parliament on July 29.
