PETALING JAYA: The Malays do not need many political parties because this will only lead to factionalism in the community, says Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid.
“Umno is enough. If we have more, we will be split into factions,” he said on the sidelines of the launch of Hari Sukan Negara 2021 at the rural development ministry which he heads.
Mahdzir was commenting on Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s discussions with other party stalwarts on reviving the “old Umno” and the launch of a new party, Parti Kuasa Rakyat.
Parti Kuasa Rakyat, understood to be led by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s older brother Kamaruzaman Yaakob, is set to be launched tomorrow.
Mahdzir said there was no need for yet another political party as there were already many Malay parties.
“Our Chinese and Indian friends do not have as many parties.”
