The booster dose will use the Pfizer vaccine and will be given at least six months after the second dose for those aged 18 and above, the ministry said in a statement.
It said this conditional approval required information on the quality, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine to be evaluated based on the latest data.
“This is to ensure that the comparison of the benefits over risks for the vaccine remains positive,” it said.
Previously, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Sarawak would be the first to begin administering booster shots this month.
These shots will be offered on a voluntary basis to those who need them, including those with comorbidities or chronic illnesses.
They will be administered at government and private clinics.
Devising a booster dose policy was among Khairy’s 100-day key performance indicators (KPIs) as health minister.
