SHAH ALAM:
A former research assistant to Anwar Ibrahim told the sessions court here that he was “humiliated” by remarks made against him by a former colleague who was press secretary to the opposition leader.

Muhammad Yusoff Rawther said he was disappointed with Tunku Nashrul Tunku Abaidah for disparaging him.

“He is not a fit and proper person to talk about my personal life and has attempted to link me to drug use.

“I would like to stress that I was very healthy at the material time (May 2019) and never consumed any substance that made me tired and unstable,” he added.

Yusoff filed a suit against Nashrul in 2019 over the latter’s press statements, which accused Yusoff of drug addiction.

Besides Nashrul, Yusoff also commenced legal action against Anwar’s political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, for alleged assault.

Yusoff said the incident took place on May 16, 2019 and claimed Farhash attacked him for being “rude” to Anwar’s principal private secretary Shukri Saad.

“Because of the assault, I went to Pantai Hospital in Bangsar for treatment. Subsequently, I had to undergo a surgery due to a shoulder injury. That cost me RM40,000,” he added.

Yusoff said a police report was lodged against Farhash over the assault and Nashrul also issued media statements to deny the incident.

“My former employer had never issued any warning against me regarding my work. Whatever Nashrul said to the media was false.”

He also told the court that Nashrul’s statements had adversely affected his career.

“I could not find jobs after resigning from DSAI’s (Anwar’s) office due to the negative news reports,” Yusoff added.

The hearing continues before judge Ishak Bakri on Nov 19.
