Noor Effandi was one of four elected representatives who retracted their support for the state government and chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali two days ago.
In a statement, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the party’s political bureau has terminated his membership with immediate effect.
Hamzah said Noor Effandi’s membership had been terminated under Clause 10 of the party’s constitution. He added that the decision will be endorsed in the next Bersatu Supreme Council meeting.
Earlier this week, former Melaka chief minister and Sungai Udang assemblyman Idris Haron announced that the state government had fallen.
This comes after three executive councillors resigned and an Umno assemblyman withdrew his support for Sulaiman.
Along with Idris, who is from Umno, former DAP man Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Independent-Pengkalan Batu) Nor Azman Hassan (Umno-Pantai Kundor) and Noor Effandi had also retracted their support for the state government.
Both Idris and Nor Azman have since been sacked from Umno.
“The Bersatu political bureau express disappointment with the action of the four assemblymen who withdrew their support for the chief minister, leading to the dissolution of the Melaka state assembly during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Hamzah said.
He added that the state’s political crisis should have been managed in accordance with the state and Federal Constitutions.
