In a Twitter post, Khairy said the SOPs released by the National Security Council (MKN) earlier today were not updated.
“Dine-in privileges for all recovery phases only for those fully vaccinated. Official statement to follow,” he said.
Later in a statement, Khairy explained that the decision was made after taking into account health and economic issues.
This included the dominance of the Delta variant strain, which made up 95% of the new variants detected in the country.
He also said those who could not be vaccinated for health reasons should provide the relevant and verified information.
Earlier today, FMT reported that restaurants can allow dining-in by all customers, whether or not they are vaccinated, under Phase 3 of the recovery plan.
The Klang Valley and Melaka have entered Phase 3 today, joining Perlis, Pahang, Terengganu and Sarawak.
MKN’s SOP for states under Phase 3 did not state that customers must be fully vaccinated to dine in.
Under the guidelines for Phase 2 states, dining-in is allowed only for those fully vaccinated.
However, dining-in for the purpose of a “social gathering” is still not allowed, while operating hours remain from 6am to midnight.
