The former education minister said the master plan should include technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

“This can be in line with the needs of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP),” he said during his speech in the Dewan Rakyat.

The master plan must be holistic and comprehensive to rebuild the nation after Covid-19 over the next four years, he said.

Maszlee also called on the government to give free breakfast in primary schools to overcome malnutrition problems, as highlighted in the Unicef Malaysia report in 2018.

The statistics department had released reports that many from the middle-income group had slipped into the low-income category.

Maszlee said the issue of malnutrition among the poor may have worsened as a result.

Due to that, the free breakfast programme under the 12MP would benefit 2.7 million students over at least 200 days a year.

Such a programme will benefit children at 7,772 schools and increase demand for meat and vegetables from suppliers within the locality. It will also benefit 100,000 canteen operators and their families, Maszlee added.
