KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Masidi Manjun has voiced his displeasure over two new clusters in the state despite efforts by the authorities to bring down infections.

He said the Mokodou cluster in Ranau announced yesterday and the Long Pasia cluster in the Sipitang district today showed that there are people who still fail to adhere to SOPs despite countless reminders by the government.

“These two clusters are quite disappointing considering our efforts to battle the pandemic,” said Masidi, who is also the state local government and housing minister, in his early Covid-19 analysis today.

“It clearly shows that some of our people are still not following SOPs or taking the advice of the health ministry seriously.

“This nonchalant attitude has caused massive infections among the population.”

Masidi said yesterday that a wake in Kampung Mokodou in Ranau ended up being a Covid-19 super-spreader event with at least 94 people testing positive.

Today, he said the Long Pasia cluster in Sipitang started from a birthday celebration attended by villagers, 25 of whom had tested positive so far.

To prevent further community spread, he urged local leaders and district officers to help combat the pandemic in their areas.

“This is particularly important for grassroots leaders and village development and security committee members to monitor social events at their villages to ensure that SOPs are observed,” he said.

Meanwhile, Masidi said the state recorded 993 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, seven fewer than yesterday.
