PETALING JAYA:
The National Registration Department (JPN) has confirmed receiving a report over the alleged sale of a personal information database involving four million Malaysians.

Its director-general Ruslin Jusoh told Sinar Harian that his department had received a report on the matter, but refused to disclose further details.

“We will inform (the media) at another time,” he said.

Earlier today, tech website Lowyat.net reported that a JPN database holding personal details of four million Malaysians had been put up for sale at a marketplace forum.

The database also allegedly contained information from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) website.

It was priced at 0.2 Bitcoin (RM35,495).

A Twitter user, Adnan Mohd Shukor, said the database contains information on identity card numbers, home addresses, mobile phone numbers and email addresses.
