Baby, 5-year-old among three killed in Sabah landslide

Three others, including another infant and a three-year-old child, escape from quarters for construction site workers.

KOTA KINABALU:
An eight-month-old baby and five-year-old girl were among three people who were killed in a landslide that was triggered by hours of rain at a workers’ quarters in Penampang, near here, today.

A fire and rescue department spokesman said the dead were identified as Dayana Zulazmil, Rosatima Asbirin, 5, and Salma Hamid, 25.

The three were among six people in the quarters meant for workers involved in the construction of a condominium.

The three who survived the incident, which occurred shortly before 4pm, were identified as Juliana Zulazmil, one, Norsirah Asbirin, three, and Risdah Jabin, 22.

“We were alerted about the landslide at 3.57pm,” said the spokesman. “On reaching the location, the two people were already confirmed dead by two medical officers at the scene.”

The downpour that began in the afternoon caused flash floods in several areas in the state capital, as well as several landslides in Penampang.
