KUCHING:
Sarawak residents will be able to travel between districts from tomorrow without the need to be screened for Covid-19, the disaster management committee said today.

Travel permits from the police will still be required. However, the inter-district travel ban remains in force in Bintulu division.

The committee said Sarawak recorded 3,522 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the state’s total to 160,320 cases. Five more deaths were recorded, taking the death toll in the state to 630 people.

The committee said genomic sequencing tests had shown that almost all the new infections were of the Delta variant.

“This means the Delta variant has spread throughout Sarawak and this has been confirmed by Prof Dr David Perera, director of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s health and community medicine institute,” the committee said.

The committee has also declared six new clusters, namely the Sungai Kerubong cluster in Sarikei; Sungai Sujan Mapok cluster (Sebauh); Sungai Dabai cluster (Pakan); Andi Liam cluster (Beluru); Pulau Brunei cluster (Limbang) and Tinwar Keleku cluster (Subis).
