In a statement marking the start of phase one of the programme, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said 10 million eligible recipients accounts would be credited with the assistance beginning today.
“According to data from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), there are about 708,223 BKC recipients who do not have bank accounts.
“Therefore, the prime minister wants the cash vouchers provided by the MOF to reach the hands of the recipients involved without any delay,” it said.
They can encash the vouchers at the nearest Bank Simpanan Nasional branch.
Initially announced in late June as part of the Pemulih package, the aid is available to those in the M40, B40 and members of the hardcore poor.
All the money for the first phase is expected to be disbursed by Sept 10, with the schedule for subsequent phases to be announced in the near future by finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz.
