Water supply restored to 92% of 463 affected areas

Five regions in the Klang Valley faced unscheduled water cuts for the second time in a week after odour pollution was detected at a pump station on Friday evening.

Alternative water supply will continue to be mobilised to help affected consumers, Air Selangor said.
PETALING JAYA:
As at 7am, water supply has been restored to 92.2% of the 463 areas affected by water cuts in Selangor since Friday evening.

In a statement, Air Selangor said water supply has been fully restored to affected areas in Kuala Langat, Putrajaya and Sepang, while 92.6% of the areas in Hulu Langat have had their supply restored, along with 81.4% in Petaling.

“Air Selangor would like to advise consumers who have received the water supply to let the tap runs until the water is clear before using it for daily consumption.

“The unscheduled water disruption is expected to fully recover by 6am on Monday,” said Air Selangor corporate communications head, Elina Baseri.

Disurption to water supply occurred after the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant was shut down at 5.15pm on Friday following detection of odour pollution. The plant resumed operations yesterday afternoon.

It was the second time in a week that the plant was shut down. It had been shut down last Tuesday, also due to odour pollution, affecting the same 463 areas with water supply being fully restored two days later.

Air Selangor advised consumers to use water prudently so that restoration works at other affected areas can be carried out efficiently as scheduled.

Alternative water supply will continue to be mobilised to help affected consumers, it added.

Consumers have been advised to check Air Selangor’s mobile application, its website, and social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, for updates.

Enquiries and complaints can be submitted to the Air Selangor Contact Centre at 15300 or via the help centre on the Air Selangor app.
