Former human resources minister M Kula Segaran said the victim’s wife had approached the party to assist in court matters and see that appropriate justice is dispensed.
In a statement, he said he had met with the wife early this month when she complained that the police had not taken any concrete action.
“As the victim has succumbed to the injuries sustained, I urge the DPP (deputy public prosecutor) to request the police to do a thorough investigation again and reclassify this case on a murder charge,” the Ipoh Barat MP said.

According to Kula, the suspect is out on bail. In view of the victim’s death, he said the earlier case in court needed to be withdrawn and possibly a new murder charge against the suspect filed.
“This case is also a reflection of a larger moral issue about the powerful, failing to comply with established rules and procedures, with the tendency to act violently against the weak.
“Violence is all around us. We should condemn this unnecessary and unwarranted death.”
Two video recordings of the assault on Dec 29 have gone viral. They show a man assaulting a security guard in front of his son by using a table until he fainted.
The guard died at his home yesterday and a post-mortem showed the cause to be a lung infection. However, the victim’s family disputed the post-mortem finding, saying his death was a result of the assault in December.
Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said investigations found that the assault occurred after the suspect was upset at the guard for not allowing his son to use the swimming pool, which was closed at the time.
The suspect was remanded and charged in the magistrate’s court on Jan 6 for causing grievous hurt and the case is to be mentioned again on Sept 9 for sentencing.
Last night, it was reported that police have reopened an investigation into the case following the guard’s death.
