MEF welcomes decision to retain Saravanan, Tengku Zafrul

PETALING JAYA:
The nation’s largest employers’ group has welcomed the decision to retain M Saravanan and Tengku Zafrul Aziz as the human resources minister and finance minister respectively, saying “time is of the essence”.

The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) said that the economy, the Covid-19 situation and the coming national budget were among some of the important matters that needed to be addressed.

“We should not risk making any major changes as they may disrupt plans that are already in place,” its president, Syed Hussain Syed Husman said in a statement.

He said the new Cabinet line-up must provide continuity and consistency to ensure that efforts to revive the national economy and alleviate the Covid-19 situation were effective.

Employers, Syed Hussain said, were faced with increasing Covid-19 issues in a sluggish economy, which saw many businesses suffer, leading to increased unemployment.

“We hope there will be political stability so that those in the ministerial positions can focus on these critical issues.”

Syed Hussain also expressed hope that the new ministers will engage with stakeholders in an effort to speed up recovery plans.
