Commenting on Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) stance regarding the motion of confidence for Ismail next month, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said they would not “complicate matters” if pro-rakyat programmes were put in place.
Following a meeting at Perdana Putra today, Anwar also thanked Ismail for honouring the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree to work together with all, despite Umno’s earlier stance of “No Anwar, no DAP”.
“Ismail represents Umno and he is in discussions with Anwar and DAP. I joked with him about ‘No Anwar, no DAP’, but it looks like things have changed.
“He said it was in the spirit of honouring the King’s decree to cooperate with everyone,” Anwar told reporters.
The three top PH leaders – Anwar, Lim Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu – had met Ismail at his office earlier at 2pm.
Anwar revealed that today’s hour-long meeting was purely about the economy and people, adding that the issue of appointing opposition members to the Cabinet did not arise.
Lim had brought up economic issues including the loan moratorium, while Mohamad spoke about new approaches to manage the critical Covid-19 situation in several areas.
Matters involving the poor and those who have lost their jobs were also discussed, said Anwar.
He said PH would have another meeting with its representatives to discuss the steps it could take to ensure political stability in the country.
